Google has officially
announced what the M in Android M stands for, and it's Marshmallow. Here are
the features you can expect from Android 6.0.
Android Pay
Google is reviving
its own mobile payment service Android Pay. It is also compatible with phones
running on Android KitKat and Lollipop. It’s process works by creating virtual
account number which means that your actual account number is not shared with retailer.
This aims to make the process more secure. It's set to work with 700,000 stores
in the US and will also work with credit and debit cards. Developers will now
also be able to introduce Android Pay inside apps so that purchase can be made
quicker and easier.
Google Now on Tap
Google's virtual
assistant which is one of Android's best features and now it's going to get
even better in Android 6.0. Now you will be able to get useful, provisional
information on anything depends on what you have currently running on your
phone screen. So if you are watching a video on YouTube, simply hold down on
the home button to get more information about someone in the video. Other
additional Google Now improvements include the ability to say 'OK Google'
wherever you are in the Android operating system.
App permissions
Whenever you install
an app in the Google Play store and a long list of things appear to which the
developer wants access to. To make it easier for users what phone features can
be accessed, permissions will now divide in specific categories like Sensor,
Camera and Location.
For example, using Whatsapp
when you need to use the microphone for a voice message, an app permission will
appear before using the feature and if you grant access, you will then be able
to make a call.
If you want to have a better idea of what app
permissions you have granted, you will now be able modify permissions within
the phone settings.
Standardised
fingerprint support
As fingerprint
technology is not really widespread on Android phones, Google is opening the
necessary APIs (Application Program interface to allow developers to add
fingerprint support with any app. This Bio-metric technology will also be
extended to Android Pay to authorise payments.
Doze
Android Marshmallow
is introducing a feature which will come in action when the Android device is
in a rested state to help power conservation. Google claims that it can help
make battery life last two times longer in standby mode by reducing background
services.
Direct Share and Floating
Toolbar
Two small new
features are introduced, Direct Share can learn who you share content with
frequently from different apps and turn the process into the press of a single
button. With the floating toolbar, it'll also improve the way you can copy and
paste content from web pages or documents.
Simplified volume
controls
The redesigned volume
controls in Lollipop were not mostly liked and Google has listened. It includes
the ability to individually supervise audio from anything making sounds,
whether that music or alarms.
