Net Neutrality
is the principle which says that all online traffic should be treated equally i.e. the ISPs (Internet Service Providers) and the government should treat all internet data
equally. This means if you pay for a certain speed of internet connection then
you should be able to use all of the speed provided to you all the time.
In India there
are no laws which can monitor net neutrality and there have been many
violations done by some internet service providers. These days telecom
companies are trying to influence TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India)
to bring regulations to the usage of internet. If this happens in India, then
your ISPs (Internet Service Providers) will decide that which website or app
you will be given access and how much you will pay for accessing that website
or app. Let us consider if you are a website owner or an app publisher then you
will have to pay for each ISPs to make your website or app visible.
As in an Airtel
network one have to pay for using WhatsApp or Telegram while Hike is free to
use as hike is a Airtel product. Airtel also launches the net neutrality voilating plan called Airtel zero. This plan will allow customers to access the mobile
applications available under the Airtel zero without paying for the bandwidth.
The bandwidth for which the mobile app developers pays who sign up with the
Airtel zero. Because of this plan the developers who does not have enough money
to pay for bandwidth are thrown out even from the playfield of competition. By
this Plan many app developers will no longer spend huge money on the digital
marketing network.
Reliance communication
associates with US based Facebook to launch internet .org in February earlier
this year under this reliance provides free access to 30 websites to its
customers.
TRAI had asked
20 questions regarding Net Neutrality from public. The recommendations was to be sent
in an email before 24 April 2015 and according to stats over a million emails had been sent to TRAI
demanding Net Neutrality
